Hi, I'm Samantha and I went to a clinic a few months ago at Gibbs Farm, where I met some of you.

Anyhow, I would like to start biking with you guys. I have only been biking since last summer and I'm not very good. I am getting a new mountain bike soon, which should make some kind of a difference because my last bike was way too big and had multiple system failures.

I just wanted to introduce myself and say "hi." I did buy really nice snow tires because I am so addicted to biking now that I can't imagine being away from my bike just because there's a little ice or snow on the road. Do you guys have organized winter rides?

Thanks!

I'm Frank the web guy. Welcome aboard. I do my riding on the roads so I can't help you out much with Mt. Bike contacts. I did just post something in the uncategorizable Forum about skiing this winter. The ski area is just out past the Gibb's about 10 miles further east. Some of the people who will be doing the skiing also ride over the winter although usually on the road with cross or mt. bike type bikes. I know Dick Gibbs in the past has gone out on his mt. bike with studs in the tires and they usually have some kind of participation in the Grafton winter festival: a couple years ago I watched them doing a bike race on the ice.

I have to confess that I've only been sporadically successful in getting the mountain bike folks to use the forums on a regular basis but if there is enough interest such as yours I'm sure success will be ours. Anyway thanks for stopping in.

I haven't tried winter riding yet, but it always piques my interest when I run into someone in January who says they just went riding the other day. My new neighbor (in Voorheesville) says that the winter is great out here because the snowmobiles make trails that run all through areas that are difficult to access in the summer. I'm excited to give it a try. I'll try and let you know if I end up making an actual plan to go (vs. just finding myself with a free couple of hours and going).

Were you at the Grafton festival and got stung by bees? If so, I was your ride leader. I hope to see you again! If not, I'll look forward to meeting you on a ride someday.

Hello all. Christian and Samantha, you may be in luck. I have had a friend of mine who rides with me suggest that I arrange a winter-riding clinic and and make-your-own studded-tires how-to session. Are you guys interested? Also, I have a group of people who are still riding every weekend in Grafton, as well as doing night rides on Wednesdays at various places in the Capital region. If either of you are interested, please contact me at NoFearATB@aol.com today or tomorrow.

We are night riding at Colonie Town Park at 5:30 PM tonight, meet at the bike path parking area if interested. It should be warm. Bring lights with run time of 1 hour minimum.

I got deathly ill this week with a nasty cold, so I have not been on my bike, at all ): I just bought a set of studded snow tires, but I'd be interested in learning how to make them from scratch because I have an extra set of tires and it sounds like a fun project?

I was not the girl who got stung by bees at the Grafton festival, and I'm kind of glad that I wasn't!

I just started to buy a new bike and I'm thrilled. It's a Giant Trance 3. I wanted the Trance 2, but they don't have any in my size left from last year, and the deal was just too good on this one.

There seems to be a lot of hostility with regards to the issue of front and rear lockout. I hope I was right in choosing neither?

I am still interested in winter biking, but not until I get better ): I'm really fed up with being sick and I've got cabin fever.

Hi Samantha. I'm truly sorry to hear that you are illin'. We had a group of about ten riders out in Colonie Town Park on Saturday mid-day. We were out for about 2 hours. It was nice to be out in the sunshine again, but it was still a bit nippy outside.

Anyway, the next time I'll be leading a ride will probably be for a night ride sometime next week (11/28 to 12/2). I tried to get a few people interested in a ride last Friday evening, but I was the only one who showed up. Too cold, I guess.

Also, I talked to everyone who showed up this past Saturday at Colonie about planning a ride for Saturday 12/3/05 during the afternoon. There seemed to be alot of interest. So the tentative plan is for a ride at Grafton Lakes S.P. on 12/3/05, meet at Mill Pond parking lot at 1 PM.

Pass along the word to anyone else you know.

The hunters should mostly be done shooting at things by then up there, and even if they aren't I can get provide a limited amount of orange vests to any riders who show up for the ride that day.
