Any possibility of linking rides in the calendar with GPS navigation files? Bikeroutetoaster.com makes some excellent files that can be saved and uploaded.

Just as an "off the top" late night response, the ride description field has an almost unlimited amount of space in it and can include links. So, if you have a route saved somewhere on the net and a link to it, it can be included in the description together with the link. There are about 25 people who can input rides to the calendar though I'm not sure how many know how to put links in.

Also, take a look at the maps and cue sheets module. We have a built in link in the ride calendar to a map and/or cue sheet and you can store such in the maps and cue sheets module. Ray Andrews superintends that module and I think we could easily enough include a GPS link if there is the interest.

As I say, this is "off the top" ... we can keep the discussion going here and figure out exactly how to do it as we get into riding season. Maybe give us an example of what a link to a GPS file would look like? Would only riders with GPS computers on their bikes be able to take advantage?

Yea, probably just GPS enabled bike would use this, but I think the units will be cheaper each year and it's usually good to be ahead of the curve.

At this point I can find out how to link to a Bikeroutetoaster file, since you can store files there and make them public. The thing would be to get someone who wants to do rides to make the GPS files and send the link to whoever posts on the MHCC calendar. For instance, I like to ride on Henry W's rides and would take the cue sheets from him, make gpx and tcx files and save them at BRT and send him the links to post.

We could put the files on this server and linking would be relatively easy. If there is enough interest I could even put a gps url field into the ride calendar just like I have map and cue url. Or we could modify the map and cue sheet module to include a column for the gps link (take a look there and see if that makes sense).

If you know how to use a FTP client I could give you access to the site and we could talk over the best strategy and location for storing the files.

This would need to be coordinated with Ray Andrews who maintains the map and cue sheet module and we'd need to know that there is a clientele out there who is interested in downloading these files.
